This course was designed to serve as an introduction to green building / construction within the greater context of preparing students for a Masters in Sustainable Smart Cities. Concepts, viewpoints and fundamentals essential for understanding the residential, commercial and industrial structure development are presented in lecture. However, these materials often focus on a wider view of practices and considerations necessary for the design of future LEED, BREEAM and/or other sustainable buildings.

Goal
The goals of this assignment are to help you:
Develop a critical understanding of the key concepts in sustainable development with regards to occupied structures.
Develop an advanced and critical appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders (owners, engineers, architects, construction personnel, etc.) and an advanced ability to articulate the need for future collaboration between stakeholders groups.
Develop an advanced and detailed knowledge of sustainable rating systems (USGBC LEED, BREEAM, etc.) and an advanced understanding of how to apply these tools to residential, commercial and industrial construction / retrofit projects.
Develop and advanced ability to critique case studies of past and present approaches to the design and construction of sustainable buildings and the role of emerging technologies in improving the sustainability of buildings.
