CRITICAL REPORT

Purpose of Assignment:

To foster an inquiring and critical analytical mind.

·        
To forge theoretical understanding with practical application.

·        
To work on a project design, share creative ideas and synthesise decision making within a group.

·        
To interact with a KM/ICT Practitioner and develop network.

 

Report Requirements

This is an analytical report.  In order to investigate, analyse and make recommendations you will need to do

the following.

·        
You will choose an organisation (Discuss this with your tutor to get approval.)

·        
Interview either a KM or IT Manager (Evidence of email or business card must be attached to the Report).  Questions for the Manager will be around the presence of a KM strategy and system and the effectiveness of their innovative collaboration platform. (As a group you will focus on one collaborative platform EG: Intranet; Blogs, Twitter etc).  If they do not have a platform, then discuss with the Manager what they consider will be an ideal knowledge sharing and transfer platform.

Study the organisation business type and critically analyse the following:

o
Driver and core value of collaborative platform

o
Whether the organisation analyses the emotions expressed in the collaborative discussions

o
Are people engaging in creative outputs

o
What data is being gathered

In the event the organisation you conduct your study does not have any technological platform then you will be required to analyse the type of platform that will be useful to the organisation.

 

Suggested Report Format

The Report should have the following Headings.  You are encouraged to add sub-headings.

Executive summary (Write this last but present it first in your written report.)

Overview of Organisation

Overview of Collaborative Platform

·        
Knowledge Management Orientation (How does the organisation apply their KM strategy and reasons for this)

·        
Analysis of KM and Collaborative Platform (Addressing: emotions; creative engagement; data collected)

·        
Recommendations – based on KM theory

·        
Conclusion

·        
References – Harvard Style

·        
Appendix (Include your interview questions, transcripts of interview and any other information you deem necessary and refer to in your main report.)

This is a creative group work. 

·        
Discuss with your Lecturer/Tutor on choice of organisation and present a plan to ensure you are on the right track.

·        
(Hint: There needs to be academic rigour in your report.  All well cited.  You will also as a group share the knowledge gained from your literature review to help you write the report with theoretical strengths.  The theoretical component is mainly in your analysis and recommendations.)
