Design a storage facility

Your task is to establish and design a facility managing the storage and preparations for the distribution of goods to retail outlets. Upon receiving the allocated product range (Apple) to be managed by your warehouse. Assumptions such as,

product assortment;

The scope of coverage for this project include,

design the layout of the warehouse (some of the areas to be clearly illustrated include, floorplan; movement of goods; equipment, people);

·        
OHS;

·        
reverse logistics;

·        
future development;

·        
traffic flows of delivery trucks etc);

·        
type of storage systems;

·        
picking operations;

·        
unitisation;

·        
packaging and labelling (if any) concerns;

·        
Materials Handling systems;

·        
an appropriate level of warehouse management information systems as well as an appropriate level of automation in warehouse operations; and

·        
any other concerns that would lead to a world class warehouse operations.

Specific tasks to be completed and when to be submitted:

A formal Business Report

·        
Present findings, analysis and recommendations in a BUSINESS REPORT format – 2500 words (± 5%) per group. 

·        
A3 sized colour layout of the warehouse facility that clearly illustrates the main and supporting processes of their warehouse as well as movement of goods, people and materials handling equipment.  

Assessment weightage of the business report breakdown out of 100 marks (13% of 25%):
— Executive Summary (how well main issue(s), findings and recommendations are presented) = 20%
— Extent of research into location, design of facility & operations, equipment & systems = 20%
— Quality of comparative analysis of data/information collected about location, design of facility & operations, equipment & systems = 40%
— Quality of presentation and adherence to College of Business presentation formats = 5%
— Use of academic language = 10%
— Quality of references = 5%

 

Assessment weightage of the warehouse layout breakdown of 100 marks (12% of 25%): 
— Extent of research into the design = 25%
— Quality of presentation i.e. creative ideas = 25% 
— Flow of movement of goods, equipment and people = 25% 
— Clear indications of main and support warehouse processes = 25%
