Module Sit/Resit/Second Resit The Sit for this module is a 3,000-word Individual Essay.
Students will be given two essay topics to choose from. The Resit for this module is a 3,000-word Individual Essay; students will be given a different essay topic. Below are the respective topics for both sit and resit. Sit essay topic 1: Reflect on your experience of project management within the context of this module to illustrate (a) the theory of the golden triangle (scope, schedule, budget); and (b) the role of leadership in project management. Sit essay topic 2: Discuss the challenges of virtual projects and the role of leadership in this context, drawing on both relevant theories and your own project management experience from the module. Resit essay topic: Discuss the essential aspects of building effective project teams drawing on both theories and your own project management experience from the module. Explain how the above differ in the context of virtual project teams. Second resit topic: Students re-sitting the module for the second time are expected to select an essay topic that they did NOT select the first time they wrote an essay for this module. For example, if a student wrote an essay based on Sit essay topic 1 the first time, they are now expected to write an essay based on Sit essay topic 2; and vice versa. Sit and Resit Essay Answer Guide Sit essay topic 1 Reflect on your experience of project management within the context of this module to illustrate (a) the theory of the golden triangle (scope, schedule, budget); and (b) the role of leadership in project management. Students should show understanding of the relevant theories relating to this essay topic, namely project management essentials, the three concepts of the golden triangle (scope, schedule, budget) as well as leadership within this context. Further to key literature in these areas, students are expected to make connections between these theories and their practical experience of working in groups within the context of this module. Good answers will explain how these issues (e.g. scope, schedule) became evident during the lifecycle of their group project. Students are expected to (a) reflect on this experience of theirs and (b) address all necessary concepts outlined above in the essay topic. Sit essay topic 2 B&M PG Resit Information Discuss the challenges of virtual projects and the role of leadership in this context, drawing on both relevant theories and your own project management experience from the module. Students should show understanding of the relevant theories relating to this essay topic, namely virtual project teams (VPTs) and the challenges that these, as well as the concept of virtuality more generally, raise for project management. Much of the focus of this essay should be on aspects of leadership within the context of VPTs. Further to key literature on virtual teams and collaborations, students are expected to make connections between these theories and their practical experience of working in groups within the context of this module. This will be evident by drawing on the virtual aspects of their group work (e.g. technologies used). Students are expected to (a) reflect on this experience of theirs and (b) address all necessary concepts outlined above in the essay topic. Resit essay topic Discuss the essential aspects of building effective project teams drawing on both theories and your own project management experience from the module. Explain how the above differ in the context of virtual project teams.
