Aim: The aim of this assignment is to analyse (i) the mode of conversion and (ii) the advantages and disadvantages of a specific type of renewable energy conversion device.
Background: 1. Select a renewable energy conversion device a. Select a type of renewable energy (e.g. wind, solar, hydro, biomass) b. Select a type of energy converter for the specific energy type (e.g. horizontal axis wind turbines, multicrystalline photovoltaic cells, Pelton wheel) – Note: this is the device that converts this form of renewable energy to electrical energy. 2. Search for relevant state-of-the-art literature 3. Identify the challenges of the specific technology, it’s advantages and disadvantages (e.g. technological barriers, market potential)
Assignment: Produce a report that clearly outlines the following:
1. A description of the type of renewable energy source you selected Weighting: 10%
2. A description of the type of conversion device/technology you selected and how the conversion is performed Weighting: 30%
3. An analysis on why the specific conversion device/technology is better/worse than other conversion devices/technologies Weighting: 20%
4. Reliable and recent literature references (journal/conference papers preferred) Weighting: 10
